Elizabeth DiPalma 1970s/ Walls
In the late 1970s I became very interested in the decayed wall paintings of Pompeii and Herculaneum. This series of paintings, "The Villa of Mysteries" evolved from that interest. Done on oatmeal paper (24'' x 18") over a ground coat of thinned acrylic, followed by oil pastel and sometimes further washes of acrylic the surface was built in layers of color and texture They have influenced a lot of my work since, especially at the moment.
